Guys Trip to Mesquite

I’ve been in dire need of a vacation. A good vacation. It finally came to fruition. We planned a guys trip down to my parents condo in Mesquite Nevada.

My dad, myself and my soon to be brother-in-law Tyler headed out to Mesquite on Thursday evening. We made pretty good time, and got into town around 11pm. Friday was spent chilling by the pool, eating good food and just relaxing. Friday night, my brother Sam joined us.

Saturday we went golfing at one of the cheaper golf courses in Mesquite. We went to the Coyote Willows Golf Course, which is in the middle of a neighborhood and run by volunteers from what I understand. I wasn’t originally going to play as I had hurt my back pretty bad on the prior Tuesday. After some putting and practicing while waiting for our tee time, I decided the movement wasn’t going to bother the back so I joined in for some golf. It was fun and we all had a good time.

That same evening we tried to hit the buffet, which was about to close and was serving Mexican food, which we had the night before. We decided to go to the other restaurant in the Eureka casino, which turned out to be ok. On our way back to the condo we decided we wanted to go see a movie, so we went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It was pretty funny and we all enjoyed it.

Sunday was another super chill day. Sam and Tyler had to head home, and left us around 11am after breakfast. My dad and I sat around and just watched TV for a few and then spent the afternoon at the pool. Reading, chilling and trying to swim in the freezing cold pool. Thank goodness for the hot tub. Went and hit up the local Chinese restaurant and then came back and watched movies.

We came home today, Monday. It was a really good trip, even with the bad back, and I’m glad we could all go. I wish my other brothers could have come too, but hopefully we can make this an annual event and get more of us out to it.

Here’s a short video of some of the fun we had while in Mesquite!

The Remodel, The Garden and The Mother

The last week or so has been pretty hectic! Lots of fun exciting stuff happened.

The big thing this last week was the remodel of our living room and hallway. We hired someone to come tear out the carpet, baseboards and repaint, followed by the installation of new laminate flooring. We wanted to update the room a bit and make it more accessible for Aiden. He can now scoot around in his little walker with no problems at all.

On top of remodeling, we bought all new furniture for the room. New couch, tables and lighting. We will be adding some new family prints on the walls soon too and it will look great! We love the way the room looks now. Feels…better.

On Saturday we spent the day in my parents yard planting all the vegetables for the year. We planted corn, tomatoes, peppers, squash, pumpkins and a bunch of other stuff I don’t even remember. We had just about everyone over that day and had a good time together as a family. The evening was just as good, as my dad smoked a pork butt which was so delicious.

Sunday was Mothers Day, and was spent celebrating Mothers. I made Amy Breakfast and Dinner, and then we went and visited all the Grandma’s. I am truly grateful for all the mothers in my life and all they have done for me and my family! 🙂

So…I wrote a big post on all the fun stuff we did over the last two weeks and then lost it all when my iPad crashed. So instead of rewriting it all, enjoy the video below, which does a pretty good job anyways. ☺️

Preserving Memories [Part 2]

Today I made a short video that summarized yesterday’s post, just not as eloquent. I included a few clips from Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday after Amy got home from work, we headed over to the flooring store to pick out laminate flooring. We are remodeling our front room and hallway. In two weeks we have a guy coming to remove our carpet, paint the upstairs and install the flooring for us. It’s going to be exciting. We are replacing all the furniture as well, so it will be all new for us.

On our way home, we stopped by my parents (Nana & Papa) to say hi. Liam played with the chickens and with Papa.

Sunday (today), Amy and I had a plethora of meetings that kept us busy most of the day. I skipped out on the normal church meetings as Aiden had a cold.

I’m hoping to find a groove with these weekly updates and can make them fun and enjoying to read and watch. I think keeping it to the weekends (preferably Sunday evening) it will let me document all this fun stuff and keep it fairly stress free.

Preserving Memories

Once upon a time, this blog was my outlet at the end of every day to destress and talk about how my little dudes were surviving in the NICU. Fast forward 4 1/2 years and you’ll find this place empty, full of cobwebs and not a post to be found. Except for the automated YouTube posts that occasionally show up thanks to IFTTT.

After blogging for a while, we tried our hand for a few years at vlogging. It was fun, and we’ve been able to make several new friends through that process. The wear and tear of filming yourself every day and editing and publishing a video every day started to come down like a strong storm. After months of posting daily videos, the thought of spending more time in front of computer instead of with my family caused daily dread. We went from preserving memories, to trying to become the next channel to try and hit instant internet success. I tip my hat to those who vlog daily and are able to make it a full time job. I’ve learned it just isn’t for me.

What have I learned? That spending time with my family is so precious to me. I’d rather post a photo here and there, and the occasional fun video on our channel, then try and entertain a group of strangers on the internet. I’ve learned that leaving my office at the end of the day and playing with my kids before I head to the gym is so much better than spending 2-3 hours with my head buried in Final Cut Pro.

So…what now?

Well, I’ve been thinking about preserving memories. Looking back at all the vlogs we did, it’s been a lot of fun to see what we did in the past, to see the kids grow. I found myself spending well over an hour browsing my personal Instagram feed of over 2000 photos and having a blast. I’ve been thinking for awhile about how I can continue to preserve the memories of my family. I’ve decided to resurrect this blog/website as well as tweak my YouTube channel in a way that I can document and preserve our memories while not killing myself at the same time.

I’m sure we’ve all heard at some point in time that you should keep a journal so that those that come after you can know about you. Just so happens, my journal is going to be a digital one.

I haven’t finalized the plans on everything yet, this is just the starting point, but what I have in mind is one video a week on our channel that is a summary of our week. iPhone videos, Instagrams, Stories, text, and narration. I want to post that same video here, but with a written out version of sorts. So a video and a blog. Sunday afternoons seem like a decent time for such a project, so that’s kind of the plan…but we’ll see. I have the tendency to change my mind A LOT, but this is the start.

Anyways…I find I ramble a lot when I blog…so to end this post, enjoy some photos I took this afternoon when we went to visit my parents.  🙂
